About the City
Alsace is one of the 26 regions of France, located on the eastern border of France, on the west bank of the Upper Rhine, adjacent to Germany and Switzerland. The name Alsace derives from the Germanic Ell-sass, meaning "Seated on the Ill"(a river in Alsace).
City Areas
Alsace has many picturesque areas to offer, some being even parts of a city or even a city itself. As such it can be said that most towns in Alsace are not just towns, but also wonderful sights to explore.
Attractions
Although Alsace is laced with castles and castle ruins from the middle ages, one of its biggest attractions is the European Parliament building in Strasbourg.
Transportation
Getting to Alsace couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is pick a place in the region, buy a plane or train ticket and get going. And if it happens that you choose to travel by car, even better. You’ll be able to get around Alsace much more freely.
Events
Alsace surprises tourist every year with its hospitality, food and wines, and especially with the marvelous annual events. These events constantly better themselves each year, everyone of them becoming more and more spectacular from the previous year.
Restaurants & Nightlife
The Alsacian know their way around food and wines, thus making the dining experience in most towns in Alsace extraordinary. Unfortunately not the same can be said about the nightlife. The only place in Alsace with a somewhat trace of night time activities is Strasbourg.
History and Civilization
Being inhabited as early as 1500 BC by nomads, Alsace quickly became home to tribes of Celts and later on a part of the Roman Empire. Its history is mainly divided between the French and the Germans, which have been fighting for the region since the 5th century.
